How the Judging Works
A panel of judges from each School will review abstracts and invite the most outstanding applicants to participate in the poster session at the Research Forum on March 28th, 2008.
During the Forum, a panel of judges from each School will review the posters and other presentation media and assess points based on expressed clarity of presentation, knowledge of subject matter, poise in answering questions, and other criteria. Judging guidelines will be distributed to students in advance of the Forum.
Finalists in each School will be designated at the Forum. The winning posters will be displayed prominently during the Forum, and featured online, and in a variety of internal and external Rensselaer publications.
Judging Criteria
Students will be asked to respond to the following three questions:
- What was your project goal?
- What is the significance of this project to your field?
- How does your solution or outcome address your goal?
The judges will be listening for how well you explain your research topic, particularly to someone who is not in your field. You will want to summarize the critical steps you took to reach your project goal, summarize briefly what you learned and whether you reached your intended goal. Whether or not your research results met your goal, you may want to include what next steps within your topic area you or someone else could take as a result of what you learned.
Judges will also evaluate the quality of your research work as well as the visual appearance and content of your poster.
