Department of Materials Science & Engineering Ph.D., University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI M.S., University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, IL B.S., Tsinghua University, Beijing, China Dr. Shi received his Ph.D. degree in Materials Science from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, in 2006. Prior to joining Rensselaer, he spent two years in North Carolina State University as a Postdoctoral Research Associate. Dr. Shi's research focuses on simulation and modeling of advanced materials systems. His recent interests include nanoporous carbon, molecular motors and energetic materials. Dr. Shi also received the Best Poster Award from the Materials Research Society in 2002 and the Albert Yee Award from the University of Michigan in 2005. Aim to elucidate molecular-level mechanisms in advanced materials systems and design active nanostructures for energy applications. Areas of interests include molecular motors, nanoporous materials, energetic materials, metallic glasses and metal-semiconductor interfaces.
