Dean Rosowsky announced today the following in an email to all Engineering faculty and staff:
I am very pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Deepak Vashishth as Department Head for the Department of Biomedical Engineering. This appointment became effective November 1, 2009.
Dr. Vashishth brings tremendous experience and a deep knowledge of the biomedical field and the department at Rensselaer to this position. Over the last month, Deepak has worked with the BME faculty to develop an outstanding performance plan for BME in FY11. He has shared his vision for the department with me, he has reached out to departments and faculty across the campus to expand the scope of the department's activities, and we have worked closely together to develop the vision for this year's search for three new BME faculty members. I am confident he will guide the department skillfully through the years ahead as we add faculty, expand research, create new cross-cutting programs, and elevate Biomedical Engineering at Rensselaer.
