"'Why Not Change the World?',
is RPI's motto. Who would have known RPI would change me and make
me want to change the world? The engineering program is magnificent.
The community at RPI - teachers, staff, and students always push
one another to be the best."
-- Tequila Harris, Graduate student in Mechanical Engineering.
"When I came from Russia to do
my Ph.D in the Nuclear Engineering and Engineering Physics program
at RPI, I didn't expect that everyone would be so warm to me and help
me with all my problems. I remember the words of Dr. Steiner when
I took his class last year: "I'm sure that nobody in this class
knows Russian better than Igor knows English!". These words inspired
me to talk more in the class in spite of the fact that I felt that
my English is not so good."
--Igor Bolotnov, Ph.D student in Engineering Physics.

Graduate programs that will inspire you!
As a graduate student in the School of Engineering you'll work side-by-side
with some of the world's leading researchers. With nearly 150 faculty
including National Science Foundation Early Career Award recipients, members
of the National Academy of Engineering, and other eminent professional
organizations, you'll get the opportunity to do amazing research with
renowned, caring leaders. To learn more about our faculty and their research
areas, see the Research section.
The Institute's largest graduate program
The School of Engineering capitalizes on the resources that only a technological
university can integrate into graduate education. We offer 20 graduate
degrees in a variety of engineering disciplines. For a complete list,
go the Degrees section. When
you join the School of Engineering and you'll be part of the largest graduate
program at the Institute, comprising over 45% of the total graduate population.
Top Rated Graduate Programs
The School of Engineering ranks as one of the nation's top graduate schools with an overall ranking of 37, according to the 2007 edition of "Best
Graduate Schools" published by U.S. News & World Report.
Take advantage of the Institute's unprecedented growth in research.
In response to the nation's largest contribution to a private university,
Rensselaer is embarking on a new era of growth in research. Research funding
at Rensselaer is on the rise.
Currently, research proposals
in the School of Engineering are up across the board; in quantity, award
levels and total dollars. Rensselaers research extends across a
broad portfolio in such areas as:
- Advanced materials
- Automation Systems
- Biotechnology
- Environmental Science
- Microelectronics
- Modeling and Simulation
- Nanotechnology
- Polymer Synthesis
- Scientific Computation
Often, this research is conducted as part of the many strategic partnerships
Rensselaer has developed with public and private partners such as IBM
Corporation, GE, Samsung, National Institute of Standards and Technology
(NIST), National Science Foundation (NSF), NASA, U.S. Department of
Defense, US Department of Energy, Los Alamos National Laboratory, Nissan,
Dow Chemical, ALCOA, Exxon Corporation, National Institutes of Health
(NIH), Lockheed Martin, General Motors, Barclays Capital, and Hitachi.
For more information on the types of research being done, go to the
Research section.
