Doctoral Guide
We have created this online MS&E Doctoral Guide* to help you navigate your way through the department’s doctoral program.
Throughout your tenure as a graduate student you will need to pass key steps including the Doctoral Preliminary Exam, Candidacy Examination and Thesis Defense, in addition to filing the appropriate forms with various offices.
To help you understand the interrelationships between these steps and what is required from you, we have created the following overall timeline (see Doctoral Guide Resources below) to help you successfully plot your course within the 7 year time limit for completing the degree.
If you have questions or suggestions about the MS&E Doctoral Guide or any of our other publications, please contact your advisor, or the Department of Materials Science & Engineering at materials@rpi.edu. We look forward to hearing from you.
