As the Albany Guardian Society indicates on its website, they are one of the Albany NY region's oldest charitable institutions. In 1850, the benevolent members of the Dorcas Temperance Society found many cases of suffering which they had no power to relieve. They felt that establishing a home for the aged and helpless, along with friendless children, would do much to improve conditions. Fifty-six dollars was collected to begin this effort, and in 1852, the Office of County Deeds certified the original charter for Albany Guardian Society.Their current focus is on providing service to seniors.
