“…I would like to thank you for putting together such a motivating program! I was very impressed with the way everybody was working so hard. I had a wonderful day at RPI , and it did help me see some definite aspects of my future. Thanks for the guidance – I am confident now more than ever that I’d like to major in math, science, or engineering…” -- Alison Buhler, ’05 Participant |
Through fun, dynamic and interactive sessions, this day is designed to spark interest in high-tech fields, and to encourage girls to pursue technical careers.
Since 1997, Design Your Future Day has gained momentum and attention for its contributions to women in technology. This year, through a generous financial commitment from corporate sponsor, Lockheed Martin, we are fortunate to offer this important program to extraordinary young women with exceptional talent in math and science.
This event is key to meeting the faculty and staff who have created a close-knit family in support of Rensselaer's female undergraduates. Participants will also have the opportunity to share the day with Rensselaer women who are currently pursuing technical degrees, young alumnae pursing careers in science and technology, and girls from other participating high schools who are equally as talented.
Program Goals:
- Showcase variety of career areas and provide exciting hands-on laboratory and field exercises in engineering and technical disciplines.
- Introduce female professionals and students in engineering and other technical fields as role models.
- Help high school girls to connect with other students possessing similar interests and backgrounds.
- Create a pre-college program model that can be shared with other universities.
