My education in chemical engineering from Rensselaer has literally
been a “passport” to adventure. In fact, the adventure started
the moment I came to Rensselaer, where I participated in the Co-Op Program
for 3 years, joined a fraternity, served as a Resident Assistant, held
a Teaching Assistantship, and had the pleasure of working as a Research
Assistant for Professor Henry Bungay.
As a graduate Chemical Engineer, it was natural to start my career
as a process engineer. I soon found myself doing project work, which
unexpectedly led to an overseas assignment, in The Netherlands. My solid
RPI background, hard work, a knack for languages, a little flexibility,
and more than a little luck, eventually led to a series of assignments
abroad. They total more than 14 years and have included Holland, France
and The United Kingdom. The work has been equally varied and challenging;
some involved process engineering, other assignments involved hands-on
plant operations. Eventually, I moved into planning, analysis and most
recently general management.
On the personal side, these adventures have been immensely enjoyable
for me, my wife Patricia and our three kids. We’ve been able to
experience life in different cultures, see a lot of the world and make
friends in many different places.
It’s hard to imagine a better way to get a start on a challenging
and satisfying career, and a life of adventure, than participating in
RPI’s Chemical Engineering program!
