History: Our steel bridge team has had varying degress of success over the past years.

  • In 1994: the bridge and it's team won the national competition.
  • In 2000: the team took second-place at the regional competition with a first-place finish in aesthetics. The same bridge placed second for aesthetics in the national competition, while placing 29th overall.
  • In 2002: the Steel Bridge team won the regional competition which was held at RPI's Houston Field House. At the National Competition in San Diego the team placed 26th. With many returning members the team returned with a great design for the 2004 regional competition at SUNY Buffalo. The team finished first in both lightness and aesthetics, but missed nationals by one place, taking third overall.
  • In 2006: was a learning year. With new members it was a challenge to get everything together. But the team came back strong in 2007 with a great bridge. They were able to greatly reduce the assembly time of the bridge and increase the strength.

Other years have had successes in their own right. Each year the steel bridge team aims to improve the performance of the bridge and to represent RPI as they compete against other schools. Click on the link in the menu to view photos of some of the bridges our teams have conceived, designed, and fabricated on their own to meet each year's specifications. None of this would be possible though without the continuous generosity of our sponsors shown on the sponsors page.
